This review examined ways to prevent falls in care homes and hospitals. Meta-analyses that included three or more randomised trials with people aged 60+ were synthesised. Ten meta-analyses were included. Nine meta-analyses included data about care homes and two included data on falls prevention in hospital. There was consistent evidence that multifactorial interventions reduced falls. There was inconsistent evidence about exercise and vitamin D as single interventions. There was no evidence to support hip protectors or medication review.
