Funding of mental health services: do available data support episodic payment?

This research argues that the NHS needs a clear and transparent funding system for mental health after it found a degree of variability in costs between hospital trusts. It suggests a need for commitment towards a new system, away from block contracts, towards patients being categorised into one of 21 clusters based on need.
